How TypingRat measures typing
A “word” is five characters, the convention typing tests have used since typewriters. Raw WPM is how fast you typed. Net WPM subtracts a penalty for mistakes you left uncorrected, and it is the figure most people mean by typing speed.
Every result is calculated on our servers from the keystrokes you actually produced, not from a number your browser reports. The formulas are published, because a typing score is only useful if you know what it means.
