Privacy Policy
Version 1, effective
Summary
TypingRat is a typing practice website. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and what you can do about it.
What we collect
If you use TypingRat without an account, we store the results of the typing tests you complete, along with an anonymous identifier held in a first-party cookie. This lets you see your recent results and lets you keep them if you later register. We do not know who you are.
If you create an account, we additionally store your email address, your display name, your preferences, and the typing results associated with your account. Passwords are stored only as a salted hash and cannot be read by us or recovered.
When you type, we record the keystrokes of a test - which characters you typed, in what order, and with what timing - and submit them once when the test ends. We use this to calculate your result on our servers and to detect manipulated submissions. We do not capture anything you type outside a typing test.
If you subscribe, payment is handled entirely by Stripe. Card details are entered on Stripe's systems and never reach ours. We store the identifiers Stripe gives us, the amount, the currency, and the last four digits and brand of the card for support purposes.
If you sign in with Google, Google tells us your email address and basic profile information. We do not receive your Google password.
Advertising
Free accounts and visitors without an account see advertising supplied by Google AdSense. Google may set cookies and use them to personalise the ads you see. Where consent is legally required, we ask before ads are requested. Paid accounts see no advertising and no advertising scripts are loaded for them at all.
What we do not do
We do not sell your personal data. We do not use the content of custom exercises you write for anything other than serving them back to you - they are never shown publicly, ranked, or included in analytics.
Your controls
You can, at any time: export your data, delete your account, hide yourself from public leaderboards, make your profile private, and change or withdraw advertising consent. Account deletion anonymises your account and removes your personal data; records we are required to retain for financial and accounting purposes are kept in anonymised form.
Retention
Typing results are retained while your account exists. Anonymous results are deleted after the retention period shown in our settings if they are never claimed by an account. Audit records of administrative actions are retained for a fixed period for security purposes.
